Glass House was formed in 1989 as a songwriting partnership between Mark Vickness and David Worm.
Their first CD,
Why Follow
, was released in 1995. In addition to Vickness (guitars, percussion) and Worm
(vocals), the CD featured bassist Kai Eckhardt (John McLaughlin Trio, Steve Smith) and drummer
M.B. Gordy (Frank Zappa, Aaron Neville).
Why Follow
was widely acclaimed and aired extensively on Bay Area radio stations.
Why Follow
favored large arrangements including lots of keyboards, electric and
acoustic guitars, drums, percussion, electronic percussion, vocal harmony, etc.
A few years after
Why Follow
was released, Glass House refashioned itself into an
acoustic group utilizing only vocals, vocal percussion, acoustic 6 and 12-string guitars,
violin, bass and hand percussion instruments.
The result - heard on their 2001 release,
Questions, is new acoustic music - original songs blending folk, jazz, funk and
celtic elements with Indian, African and Latin percussion.
Questions
features:
Chad Clouse/violin (Mike Marshall, Michael Manring)
David Belove/bass (Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie)
Ty Burhoe/tabla (Zakir Hussein, Kitaro)
M.B. Gordy/percussion (Frank Zappa, Aaron Neville)
Brian Rice/percussion (the Native Suns, Orquesta La Moderna Tradicion).
The group is based in Oakland, California.
